What were you doing before Gridcog, and what got you into the energy space?

Before Gridcog, I was working at the Energy Systems Catapult which is also how I got into the energy transition and net zero. I wanted to move into this sector and work with Catapult at the time because I was passionate about sustainability, climate change and the role we can take to positively change how we generate & use energy. I am still very passionate about that and love how much there is to learn and the potential for innovation in this space.

What is your role at Gridcog?

I’m joining Gridcog as a Senior Business Development Manager, with the aim to help grow the business and bring Gridcog to many more companies.

What attracted you to working with Gridcog?

I think Gridcog has a really interesting and powerful product and I was instantly impressed with its capabilities. I also love the culture they are trying to build, with values that mean we do important work but have fun whilst doing it. The energy transition is a challenge, and often the day to day job can be hard, so we need to look after one another but also enjoy it as we go on this journey together.

What interests and excites you most about the energy industry?

Energy is a key role in our society, and right now, so much is changing (for the right reasons, to help build a more sustainable system). There are so many interdependencies, as well as the different and new ways consumers need to interact with energy. This makes it challenging, in a good way! That provides a lot of opportunity for problem solving, innovation and collaboration. An exciting time to be in the sector.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I try to be active and get into nature when possible. A great day out for me includes a long hike. I have also always loved dancing, and tried different styles but more recently my go to is salsa dancing, which is highly energetic and fun at the same time. Tapping into my creative side, I have picked up painting again which is very relaxing. And importantly, when i’m not trying to do all the above, i love hanging out with family (especially my three adorable nieces) and friends, catching up over a beer or coffee, going to gigs/theatre and watching movies (the perfect friday night in).

A couple images from one of my favourite hikes, Angels Landing in Zion National Park, Utah. It was a lovely, intense and full day hike, with some pretty scary parts (especially for those with a fear of heights). I love the red rocks in the American landscape, especially in southern parts around California, Nevada, Utah and Arizona.

What technology could you not live without?

Anything that plays music. I love a good dance, especially in the kitchen whilst cooking. It is also the best way to start my day especially on a weekend morning when I’ve not got anywhere I need to be.
